Watch: Yesterday At Backdoor With John Florence And Mikey Wright

In the weird psyche of surf, missing a swell at home goes together like lemon and wounds. It doesn’t matter where you are. If you’re on vacation, somewhere warm, tropical, surfing overhead tubes and learn that your locale is about as good as it gets, homesickness sets in. It’s a strange and terrible phenomenon that shatters wanderlust. Scoring on a surf trip is great, but rolling to your local parking lot, greeting the familiar friends and faces you surf with on the day to day, suiting up, and hollering for your friends is surfing’s greatest joy. And, if you’re doing all this in trunks, then you’ve transcended! Some call it nirvana.

So, while we’ve been leaked footage of Mr Florence testing out his Pyzel quiver on the Gold Coast, surfing fun, but not top-notch Snapper, his backyard started to pulse.

Yesterday, was something to be desired.

So, John hopped on a plane. Time traveled 17 hours behind, and, in the evening slid into something more comfortable.

What lies above are a few waves of John and a few waves of Mikey.

Nothing too cerebral here, just very good tube riding.
