With Carissa Moore Out Next Year, Is Tyler Wright In Pole Position For The Title?

Steph, Lakey, Caroline, and Sally might disagree, but what do the stats say?

Let’s look at the facts.

In 2016 and 2017, Tyler Wright won the World Title. In 2018, she fell ill and pulled out of the Tour halfway through the season. In 2019, she remained out of competition for most of the year but returned for the final event, placing second at Honolua Bay behind Steph Gilmore.

Next year, the 2019 World Champ, Carissa Moore, will not compete on Tour.

Realistically, that means the race for the World Title is between 7x Champ Steph Gilmore, perennial runners-up Lakey Peterson and Sally Fitzgibbons, teen phenom Caroline Marks, and the 2x Champ tyler Wright.

If you had to put your money on one of these gals pre-Snapper, who would it be?

And before you answer that, watch the clip above from the Rip Curl women’s team in Hawaii. It will give you a great indication of where Tyler’s surfing is at.
