William Aliotti Wins Capitulo Perfeito Tubefest At Nazaré
A contest for those who abhor chippy chop-hops.
If you’ve never competed in a surfing event, let me tell you: nothing beats getting tubed all day in a jersey. The problem is, roughly 99% of non-CT events happen in poor to piss-poor conditions, which means that competitors tend do a lot more chippy chop-hops than they do stand in the pit.
But the Capitulo Perfeito event is different. This Portuguese-based competition, which has been running since 2012, is solely interested in its participants getting very, very slotted. That’s why they have a multi-month waiting period and run exclusively at spots like Supertubos, Carcavelos, and most recently (mortal-sized) Nazaré.
The 2017/18 event ran just yesterday, and despite being playful in size, Nazaré offered a surplus of tubes for the event’s 24 competitors.
After breezing through multiple rounds of competition, the field was whittled down to four: New York’s very own, and last year’s second-place finisher, Balaram Stack; Brazil’s new big-wave sensation and recent Nazaré BWT event champion, Lucas Chianca; Florida’s ex-CTer and recent non-retiree, Cory Lopez; and the event wildcard, straight off Guadalupe island, William Aliotti.
After the 30-minute final, it was Aliotti who took the crown, Lopez second, Chianca third, Stack fourth. Check the highlights above, and we’ll see you in 2019!
