When A Massive South Swell Hits Northern Peru…

We aren’t the ones telling you where this wave is.

We didn’t want to name it. We really didn’t.

But judging by the number of references to the whereabouts of the rifling left in the first ten seconds of the clip, you’d think the locals were practically sending out handwritten invites.

According to Lucca Mesinas, they’re not.

“It’s mainly locals out. We try to keep this place very localized because it doesn’t get this good very often. We try to keep it that way, so we can enjoy it — at least when it gets good.”

“A place where time bends and everything is reduced to the instant,” reads the description on Lucca’s YouTube channel. The footage is stitched together from the best (and biggest) day of a three-day south swell.

“I surfed straight from 6 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., and it was enough to get this epic edit,” said the 2022 CT rookie.

Caught slightly off guard, Lucca suited up, pulled a trusty blade from the rack, and did what he was supposed to do.

“I rode my regular contest shortboard — 5’10’’ ½” — out there. I don’t really have time to get specific boards made for barrels since I’m always traveling for competition, but all my normal boards work amazing for barrels, as you can see.”

That, we can confirm.

You might find yourself checking charts and flights to Northern Peru shortly after hitting play on this one. RSVP optional.
