Watch: Mikey Wright Is Back In The Water!
Running on fumes of Bitch Diesel
The recent history of Mikey Wright has been a painful one.
It all started in early 2018 when Mikey fell on a wave while competing at da Pipeline brah. He herniated his L4/L5 disc and suffered spinal stenosis. A quick google and yep, just as I suspected ‘Spinal stenosis’ is not a good time: “A narrowing of the spaces within your spine, which can put pressure on the nerves…”. Yuck. Apparently, the pain was so bad that Mikey could hardly sleep.
Mikey did almost zero free surfing for the remainder of the year but given his freak talent alone, managed to compete in 8 events and end up 12th on the ratings. In 2019, Mikey competed in the first three World Tour events before withdrawing to deal with the injury. It’s been ten months out of the water and we’ve spent 10 months missing any new clips from the mongrel. The great news is, based on the vid above, his surfing is as psycho as ever.
