Watch: The Top 5’s Surfing Gets Sharper As Finals Day Approaches

Another day, another Lowers session with world title contenders scrapping for every bit of warm-up they can get.

Jimmy Wilson was kind enough to spend a second day parked behind the cobbled stoned shoreline, pointing his lens at the high-performance free surfing happening directly out front. 

Jimmicane also wrote a feature post yesterday on his thoughts from the training sessions, given his experience in surf media over the last decade or two. Something he noted was Medina’s explosiveness and ability to be out the back in two minutes. Both of these things you can see for yourself in the video above.

You’ll also notice Conner Coffin’s absurdly high wave count and the absolute decimation of helpless faces along the way. While Jimmy agrees that this is the best he has ever looked at Trestles, keep in mind that Conner will have to potentially surf five or six heats to win the world title. 

It’s not an impossible feat, but fatigue will be a serious disadvantage. 

Steph Gilmore also looks dialed in for a World Title, but she’ll face the same 5-6 heat climb as Coffin and the competitive powerhouse that is Carissa Moore.
