Watch: The Kid Who Burned Jacob Wilcox In Surf100 Is A Stone Cold Shred

Meet Sid Englert.

If you watched Surf100 WA (still playing on-demand here), you certainly know who Sid Englert is.

But for those who missed the show, a brief introduction:

Sid Englert is a 12-year-old WA local. On the day that we filmed Surf100, Sid was surfing North Point, completely unaware of the quasi “surf comp” that was happening around him.

So naturally, he treated it like any other day.

After watching the boys perform “circle work” (Willcox’s words) throughout the lineup, the wave Sid had been waiting for came his way. So, Sid did what any respectable local would do—he went. Without even looking to see if there was someone behind him.

As you’ve probably already seen (or figured from the title), Jacob Willcox was behind Sid, getting supremely barreled on a mid-sized gem. Sid didn’t seem to notice Jacob’s presence until after he’d exited the tube and done a naughty little snap on the end chip. Neither party looked especially aggrieved.

Moments later, Sid appeared on the rocks next to one of our event organizers and impromptu commentator Jake Paterson. Jake proceeded to interview Sid, whose responses were so adorably Australian they’d make a koala bear blush.

Back to the present. If you hit play on the clip above, you’ll get to see Sid properly surf. And the kid can surf quite properly. Despite being just 3-foot-4 (Snake’s rough estimate), Sid has no issue surfing maxed out North Point or many of WA’s other hallowed holes. Waves that Sid would call “ah, like six-foot”.

His interview with Snake is tacked on the end.
