Watch now: Mikey Wright in ‘Rage’

All photos by Bosko Ladies and gentlemen; Mr Mikey Wright. Mikey and his filmer Wade Carroll have just pieced this clip together from their three week stint on the North Shore. It’s raw, electric and is a proper substitution for your morning coffee. The aptly named Rage, cut to Rage Against the Machine and accompanied by clips from one of their 1993 shows may just have you grabbing your army boots and stomping the carpet beneath your desk, couch, kitchen… wherever you happen to be viewing; just channel the energy of Zack de la Rocha. Mikey’s got power that can’t be refuted. But we’ll let his lensman Wade take it from here. Rail that’ll make your left eye twitch while the rest of your face melts. Stab: What is this rare piece of metal you’ve just handed off to us?Wade: We wanted to put together a clip that’ll get people pumped. Mikey’s been ripping, he was having so much fun over in Hawaii. He just goes for it. Filming with him’s pretty exciting. He’s always going 100 percent and is always trying different stuff. If he does a big air he’s going to try and land it, you never really know what to expect. This was all filmed over the three weeks we were on the North Shore, mostly at Rocky Rights. That wave was perfect for the big powerful turns that Mikey wanted to do and the lefts were good for airs. There’s a couple of sessions out at Pipe with his brother in here too. We were going to go home a week earlier than we did, but then Owen got hurt so we stuck around a bit longer. Taken the same session Evan Geiselman nearly drowned. Mikey and Owen were putting on an exhibition on how to properly knife a Pipe tunnel. How’d your surfer/filmer relationship come about? Our families are good friends, we’ve known each other since we were real mini. We grew up playing sports together and became good friends. Mikey moved to Lennox Head and I was living on the South Coast where we’re from. After I finished school he got in touch with me and asked if I was interested in filming him, we’ve been living together ever since. Momentarily airbrushing the sky. What’s next for you guys? Well, Mikey’s going to start competing again this year. So I’ll be traveling with him and in between events we’ll be filming as much as we can and putting together clips. We’ll put out a fair amount of clips this year… that’s the goal anyway. Then over the next few years we’ll be working on some bigger projects. It’s funny in Australia everybody knows how good Mikey’s been surfing but not that many people in the states really knew too much about him. From what I’ve heard, after Hawaii he’s gotten on everybody’s radar. Killing in the name of…
