Watch: Nathan Florence Initiates Ivan At The Box

After years spent sniffing out the world’s most malevolent waves, it’s safe to say that Nathan Florence has become unsettlingly comfortable with The Box.

But what’s the point of knowing, if you don’t pass it on? Enlightenment means nothing if you hoard it. Enter little brother Ivan.

It’s a tale as old as time: older sibling initiates the younger into a strange and mysterious portal. In this episode, Nate walks Ivan through The Box.

“It’s awesome to have Ivan on the road, seeing him figure out all these new waves,” says Nathan. “He starts with a lot of hesitation and rarely catches good waves on his first session, but after the second time, he always ends up finding his line and an entry that works for his style, and ends with a few insane rides.”

“There really is an acquired way to learn a new wave really fast,” Nate continues. “I try to coach him, but Mister Cool does things his own way. I always tell him that if he just commits, he has the skill and style to make the waves 90% of the time, even when they’re heavy.”

A very wholesome way to tackle a very hostile environment. Gotta love a bit of brotherly faith, eh?
