Watch: “Lucas Godfrey X Pipeline” Is Pure North Shore Underground Gold

Lucas “Skywalka” Godfrey is one of the North Shore’s most understated rising talents, for several years now a perennial standout on his North Shore home turf each winter.

Lucas grew up in Pupukea, the son of a humble and hard working carpenter father, and a caring mother, both North Shore transplants from the ’70s days. Kid has it good, can more or less live of the little family plot—a dozen types of citrus, butter avocados, a full veggie garden—with a big, adorable Golden Retriever standing guard. Last we saw him, he was more or less unsponsored, riding hand me down relics gifted to him by friends who took pity. On firing Pipe days, you’d hear people asking: who was the fucking kid in the ancient Da Hui rashguard and thrift store trunks getting fucking smokers at Backdoor on a ’90s Rawson? 

Anyhow, the clip above demonstrates just how strong the Force is in young Skywalka. While it’s easy to understand why the kid’s lifestyle at home would, um, inhibit ambition—who could ask for more, really?—we’d love to see Lucas turn some heads in a singlet at Pipe this year.
