Watch: Harry Bryant + Friends In ‘Postcards from Motel Hell Pt 2’
“45 minutes of rip bowl madness tackling volatile waves and dangerously cold beers in tropical paradise.”
Harry Bryant’s Postcards from Motel Hell Pt 2 is a longform, low-calorie digital scrapbook of giggles, beer, photos, and skits. Best enjoyed horizontally with Chrissy leftovers. There’s no real structure. You can skip around chapters. Haz, like Mason Ho, makes everything fun to watch. Nail or fail. It’s unpolished. Punchy. And better than it has any right to be.
This is an extended cut of the Indo section in Motel Hell – which currently sits in pole position in this year’s Stab Surfer of the Year race for Film of the Year – and features Electric Acid Surfboard Test star and Stab High runner-up Shaun Manners, Dion Agius, freed from Ritual Vision HQ, CEO of Lazer Fins Rolo Montes, and boogie legend/photographer Tom Robinson.
Lots of interesting boards are ridden here — Haz is arguably doing more to elevate underground shapers, young and old, than just about any surfer on the planet. The Haz Gun—a collaboration with Josh Keogh—got a moment in the sun last January when Justin Quintal (longboard world champ and, apparently, fishing world record holder) snagged the wave of his life at Pipeline.
Then there was the 2023 Vans Pipe Masters. Harry walked away with a perfect 30 — the first in VPM history — thanks to a Paul Gravelle gun that came with a proper campfire story. He and Nathan Fletcher broke down in Penong, South Australia (population: not many), and killed three days in the town’s only pub/hotel. Next door? Gravelle’s shaping bay. Harry left with a used stick and a handshake. The board that caught his perfect 30? A 7’2 custom slab magnet that got him in early and let him ride foamballs like he had cheat codes.
You’ll also find Ben Webb, Mawscode, Byrning Spears, Dahlbergs, Emerys, Paul Gravelles, Wade Tokoros, and Outer Islands stuffed in the back of his Troopy — some of which feature in Ferrari Boyz, Toby Cregan’s series on surf whips.
