No longer do Twitter, Facebook, main feed Instagram, Instagram Stories, or any combination of the aforementioned platforms provide an adequate channel through which influencers can share day-to-day experiences with their insatiable followers.

In 2018, it’s all about the Youtube* vlog.

Vlog, of course, is short for Video Log, which makes a vlogger someone who videos their day-to-day thoughts and activities in real time, rather than having to scribble about them in a journal later on.

Those videos are then cut down to a palatable length (typically 5-to-15) minutes, synced with unbearable Youtube music, and posted online for the world to see.

Some famous surfing vloggers include: Ben Gravy, Jamie O’Brien, Alana Blanchard, and of course now, Gabriel Medina.

Medina’s new show is called “#YOLOMedina”, which unless there’s a different Portuguese translation for that particular acronym, translates to “You Only Live Once Medina”.

While non-Portuguese speakers like myself will be confused by the show’s infrequent dialogue, Episode 1 of #YOLOMedina, called “Trail and Friends”, is simple enough to follow: Gabe and friends go hiking on a cool rock, Gabe and friends ride an ATV, Gabe does step-offs at a beachie in his hometown of Maresias. The end.

Needless to say, the entire Stab crew is already itching for Episode 2. We might even fly in Steve Allain to do live translations for us.

What a time to be alive!

*Gotcha!
