Watch: Filipe Toledo’s A++ Clips From The Past 3 Years

This is a goddamn banger.

It seems a little strange saying this, but we almost…forgot…how good Filipe Toledo was at surfing during this whole competitive reprieve.

Sure sure, he won the Rumble and all, but without Gabby in the field that’s like taking Twinkies from a toddler for old Fil. Plus, San Clemente’s non-native son has been rather quiet on the surf edit front of late, whereas he seemed to be churning out a clip every week (a la Italo) back when the world was in full swing.

In retrospect, this digital silence might have been a calculated move by Filipe’s team. By creating a scarcity of Filipe clips in our day-to-day lives, they’ve increased the value of whatever comes next (see: supply & demand theory). And what came next is fucking spectacular.

In the film above, titled “Never Meant for Stillness”, Bruno Baroni and Victor Rodrigues have compiled all of Filipe’s best surf clips from the past three years. We’re talking A-minus to A++ shit for nine minutes straight. It’s a certified banger.

Let me give you some quantitative data to express the quality of this clip.

When a surfer submits an edit to run on our site, we try to find a peak moment from the film to promote it on our Instagram. If I had to guess, I’d say that about 50% of the films on our site have a wave special enough to run on our main feed.

In Filipe’s film, about 50% of the individual surf clips surpass the minimum quality benchmark. That’s nearly unprecedented.

If you haven’t already, hit play. This is outstanding viewing.
