Watch: A Psychedelic Surf Trip with Jaleesa Vincent, Laura Enever, and Josie Prendergrast
Venturing across Australia’s south coast.
In October, Jaleesa Vincent, Laura Enever, and Josie Prendergrast headed down to the South Coast of Australia to shoot for Billabong’s new Surfadelic collection, which just launched today.
Surfadelic is inspired by retro style and psychedelic visuals from the 70s–complete with heady b-roll and abstract effects. Billabong even made single fins and twin fins with psychedelic patterns to match the collection, but “we all prefer to ride our own boards when the waves are pumping,” says Jaleesa Vincent. And since we mostly see Laura and Jaleesa on their regular shortboards in the video, it’s safe to say the waves were pumping all week.
The women showed that even if their wetsuits are a blast from the past, their surfing remains cutting edge. “My favorite part of the trip was for sure the barrels,” says Jaleesa Vincent (probably talking about :30). “It was great to do a surf trip and actually hunt waves and not just focus on the fashion side of it.” Barrels over bikinis is not always a given in a women’s surf campaign.
Jaleesa, who spent the trip duct taping the stitches on her foot together so she could surf, says the last session was the heaviest. “We had been on the boat for eight hours and we were about to leave and it started pumping again and we were like ‘fuck, we’ve got to go back out don’t we?’ And I’m glad we went back out.”
