Watch: A North Shore Amp Reel From The Rocky Point Classic In Honor Of Chas Chidester!

Last year, the North Shore lost one of its most beloved loose cannons, Seal Beach grom turned North Shore bruiser, Chas Chidester. 

After a very promising Juniors career throughout the early-’00s, like a lot of surfers during the era, Chidester struggled with addiction issues, but his presence in the water from Sunset to Log Cabins was always hugely felt whenever the powerful, gregarious regularfoot would paddle out. He was truly a huge personality, with the talent and brawn to back it up.

While dedications have popped up all over the North Shore since his passing last year, perhaps the most moving tribute so far is the clip Mason Ho dropped in our inbox this AM, from the “Rocky Point Classic,” an impromptu, light-spirited battle held in honor of their old friend Chas.

At twelve minutes, the clip is more than worth the watch, with Curren cameos, as well as appearances by Freddy P., Koa Rothman, Kaimana Henry, and a handful of faces that’ll be familiar to anyone who has spent any time on the rock the last couple years – the so-called North Shore Underground.
