The Volcom annual trip to Tavarua is a usually a debauchery-fuelled affair – the company books out the island’s lodgings in their entirety, and sets the team and employees loose for a week in tropical paradise. However, celebrations during the most recent trip were disrupted by a slight inconvenience: straight-up firing waves. As Volcom rider Mitch Coleborn says, “Usually the waves aren’t amazing so everyone just gets blind the whole trip. But this time we had waves like, the whole time.”
A series of three short clips are being released intermittently, named Tavarua Trippers. The second one just dropped, and features Mitch Coleborn mad-doggin’ pumping Restaurants, “Just before it gets too low, and if you fall off you die.”
He’s riding a 5’4” fish shaped by a guy called Jeff from Nine Lights Surfboards in Huntington: “The board went pretty fun – I think any board would in those waves though.” He ended up giving it to a team manager at the end of the trip.
The next episode will feature some solid six-feet Cloudbreak, so stay tuned. – Elliot Struck
