An Accomplished Surfer Whose Name You Might Not Know
Ryland Rubens is one of San Diego’s most underrated surfers.
There’s a plethora of surf talent hailing from San Diego, some recognizable from the beach, and others you’ve never seen before. Ryland Rubens falls on the less mainstream side. Despite his relatively low profile, he has a qualified resume. He was the 2017 United States Pro Junior Champion, a four-time member of the US Team, and is currently competing on the QS.
Today, Ryland offers surf lessons for all skill levels and makes clips like the one above. It’s kind of crazy to think a person can surf this well and not be all over your IG feed. That carve at 0:50 is well worthy of some screen time.
