Two Days At Desert Point With Brazil’s Most Stylish Sandwich Maker
Are Yago’s talents wasted on Tour?
Yago Dora currently sits in 22nd position on the Championship Tour.
He also finished the 2018 season ranked 21st, so let’s just assume that’s the Brazilian’s career average.
Now, ask yourself this question: does a low-20 ranking align with a surfer of Yago’s pedigree? The man who makes airs more easily than a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? Whose forehand snap is sharper than Medina’s armpit blade? Whose ability in the pipe surpasses an Armenian plumber?
We think certainly not and provide the video above as supporting evidence.
Which raises another question: are Yago’s talents wasted on Tour? Or at least the first third of the Tour?
It’s no secret that the first four CT events are all at predominantly right-breaking waves; it’s also no secret that Yago Dora is a far better forehand surfer than he is on his backside.
Come Brazil, (skip Jeffrey’s) Chopes, the wavepool, Euro, and Hawaii, Yago’s chances to succeed increase exponentially, so one should expect more dominant performances in the coming months. But even if the Tour ain’t his jam, we foresee a lengthy career for Mr. Dora, whose surfing never fails to arrest our scroll.
