Today’s Novelty Viewing: Mick Fanning Skimboarding Kelly’s Wavepool

Who says the old dogs can’t learn new tricks?

Is 2018 the year Mick Fanning disembarks from the WSL bandwagon? Or will he hold on for a swing at the new format and the addition of Kelly’s creation?

He did dip his toes in the free surf world after a tumultuous 2015 thanks to a shark, loss (in a family sense and in a competitive sense) and the launch of his beloved beer brand.

During his sabbatical he rode the most talked about mysto wave in existence, surfed waves made from glaciers and shifted down a gear back home – we imagine to ‘test’ and refine the Balter range – before returning to his post.

A short while back we saw Joel Parkinson slide Kalani Robb’s skimboard on an artificial canvas at Lemoore. He looked a tad shaky (for one of the world’s smoothest pointbreak operators, that is) but managed to disappear twice and twist a few top turns along the way. Mick filmed that ride. So it was only fair that the pair swap it up, Joel take lens duties while his old pal ran the disc.

So we ask you, who wore it better?

And how would skim superstar, Brad Domke fair in a matchup?
