These Two Waves Define African Big Wave Surfing

Enter Sunset Reef and Dungeons – South Africa’s twin peaks and the birthplace of a longheld, understated big wave community in Cape Town. For “younger” guys like Matt Bromley and Grant ‘Twiggy’ Baker, these waves offered an optimal training space for their careers in rhino-hunting (of the legal variety).

Down in the rainbow nation, the consistency of waves and camaraderie between locals helps mold young chargers into preeminent big wave surfers. Bromley attributes his success and confidence in other big wave locations to his foundations at Sunset and Dungeons.
