What Has The QS Come To?
Jake Paterson’s much more than just a babysitter for pro surfers.
It takes a strong, confident, and some would say masochistic man to take half of a dozen QS kids under his wing. The task is often compared to the tedium of herding cats, but when said groms have spent their lives chasing one another’s tails, the difficulty is compounded exponentially.
Enter San Clemente’s Crosby Colapinto, Kade Matson, Jett Schilling and Cole Houshmand. All prodigious talents, all intent on following in the footsteps of big brothers Griffin and Kolohe Andino. They’re the future of the California hotbed, and now, footloose and fancy-free for their first full season on the QS, Jake Paterson has taken on the unenviable job of trying to make sure they’re where they need to be when they need to be there.
Granted, this generation of San Clemente prodigies is considerably easier to manage than the hazy ’80s when it was Christian Fletcher, Dino Andino and Matt Archbold on the road together (oh, the good old days), but as you can see in the new episode of “Snake Tales,” that doesn’t make things a whole hell of a lot easier for Jake.
