The Big Saturday Content Keeps On A’Comin

I’m not a video editor, nor will I ever be. Give me the most meager of A.V.-related tasks and I’m likely to fuck it up big time.

With so many vlogs around I’ve always wondered: At what size does a channel have to be for them to outsource their video editing? No way J.O.B is as hands on as he was when he started his endeavor, yet in contrast I know Brett Barley still spends quite a bit of time editing his posts.

With Big Saturday having come and gone, it’s intriguing to see the timeline with which the clips roll in. Do these guys prefer to be first, satiating the viewer pool that likely overlaps with their competitors? Or is quality a more important factor in the long game that is the Youtube algorithm?

Whatever your strategy, the slight lag in editing on the North Shore could be entirely attributed to the run of swell they’ve been on. This week we have Southern charm in full display out of North Carolina, a re-cap of the 2017 Jaws event from Kai Lenny’s POV, and we continue to cover edits from Hawaii’s recent mega swell.

This is was an easy click. Living in Los Angeles, crowds are never a welcome sight, so to see a town come together and share not just waves, but boards for days on end with smiles on their faces is a welcome sight. Just look at the grin Russel Blackwood’s rocking is at 5:20. Good on Brett for getting everyone clips and putting out a video of a model lineup.

If you do (watch our IG stories), you’ll likely remember seeing a panting, out-of-breath Mason after copping a few on the head out at Waimea. It’s not easy to tire Mase out, which goes to show just how hairy it was out there. Thankfully no red Quik vests were harmed in the making of this clip.

Channel Subs: 59.5k
Video Views:  404,765 (67,460.0 views/day)
Like/Dislike Ratio: 6,100/114 or 53.5 likes per 1 dislike

We’re not telling you to miss this for any reason other than it may give you nightmares. We know Kai Lenny’s ultimate goal is claiming victory in his backyard at Jaws. Watch above as he and others (ehem 1:27) get obliterated in the process.

Miss- Where’s The Clip Zeke?
Channel Subs: 7.78k
Video Views:  13,069 (6,804.5 views/day)
Like/Dislike Ratio: 468/6 or 53.5 likes per 1 dislike

This too comes with an asterisk. While one’s first time at Honolua seems to be a great experience, how is Zeke going to drop a wave like the one below on IG and not address it on his Youtube? We need to know what led to him taking a lip like this in the head. We’ll give Zeke the benefit of the doubt and check back in next week to see if he’s covered this.

Like/Dislike Ratio: 10,653/81 or 131.5 likes per 1 dislike

Kalani Chapman, Jamie O’Brien and Ben Gravy spent their Big Saturday towing on the North Shore. We’ve seen John and Justine’s barrels, but Kalani may have caught one of the biggest waves of the swell (and winter) at 20:25. Jamie’s claiming it was 30ft, Ben’s claiming it was 85ft, how would you rate such a behemoth?
