Tahiti Leaves Nothing To The Imagination

Teahupo’o is the most perfect wave on earth… if a predictable, heavy, and visually stunning tube is what you seek. (And it is what most of us seek.)

But isn’t there something to be said for subtlety? In the age of instant gratification, we’ve learned that leaving space for the mind to wander is actually more valuable than putting it all out on page one. 

Most of the footage we see of Teauhpo’o is staring straight up her guts. It’s just drop in, penetrate, and come flying out with the spit…over and over again. And while some men retain a semblance of exclusivity, eventually, everyone gets their turn. Sometimes two at once.

Which is why clips of Teahupo’o all feel a bit redundant. The wave is so damn perfect that we get de-sensitized to its power and beauty. Meanwhile, a novelty tube at a waist-high beach break can captivate us immeasurably. The human mind at work!
