Surely Rasta Robb Isn’t Still Riding His Rad Ripper In Hawaii
Florida man’s gonna Florida, in an early-season ep of O’Neill’s Hawaii Live.
December was abnormally slow on the North Shore. Rainy, windy, and swells from the wrong direction.
Then came the New Year, and the northwest swell bender began in earnest. You saw what happened. History at the Da Hui Backdoor Shootout. Massive Waimea. Pipe doing its thing, almost daily.
Consider this episode of O’Neill’s Hawaii Live an appetizer to the January main course.
You know the headliners. Eli Olson, Ian Crane, Torrey Meister, Robbie McCormick, Shion Crawford and Caity Simmers. But there are a few guys you’ve probably seen less from, like Dimitri Poulos, Lucas Owston, Robert Grilho, Thatcher Johnson and Timo Simmers.
As for those two CT team riders who are oddly missing here, Jordy Smith was still dealing with pandemic delays in South Africa, and Kolohe Andino’s board didn’t have free real estate while this was being filmed.
Also, did anyone else catch that Robbie McCormick is still riding his trusty Rad Ripper? The same Mayhem blade he rode to near-victory in Stab High Costa Rica has apparently stayed glued to his feet. While most surfers would be dusting off their step-ups for Hawaii’s hollow, heavy reef breaks, here is Rasta Rob laying into drop-wallers (check that one at 3:48), big hacks, and backside revs, all on his old faithful.
From Florida to Costa Rica to the North Shore, Rasta Rob and his Rad Ripper live on.
