Once again we’ve been graced with the wisdom of a 10,000 career-tube rider and former World Number 2, Mr. Shane Beschen. Last time he taught us the reasons for and mechanics behind the double-arm stall, and today it’s all about the mid-tube pump. Through an expert video analysis, Shane describes the precise moment when to release all the horses from the stable.

From Shane’s Insta:

Speed management………….

In tube riding, managing your speed is one of the most important things and deciding when to stall and when to pump can be tricky sometimes………….

One pump in a barrel can be the difference from making it or not………….

One pump can also make you completely miss the barrel, like on this wave, I did my first pump to hard missing the first part of the barrel for the sake of making the next section………….

Reading the waves speed and understanding how much speed you can create are really important and again shifting both feet forward on your board will always give you more control over your speed and timing in the tube………….

Happy tube hunting and hope this helps you make that next barrel.

Now, there’s just one tuberiding principle Shane failed to mention: It’s always better to be too deep than not deep enough.

So save that pump until you really need it.
