Rounds three and four completed at the 2014 Quiksilver Pro, France

Le Gardian had some kick today; Enough of it that the Quiksilver Pro, France could finally resume, and manage the completion of rounds three and four. With the title race still very much in play, despite Gabriel Medina’s stranglehold on it, those who still have it in their sights are going for broke. And none more so than Gabs himself. “With the swell increasing this afternoon, there’s a lot of water moving and it’s easy to get lost out there,” said Gabs of his convincing round four victory. “Lucky I found some opportunity and was able to have a better heat than the one I had this morning (against Jeremy Flores). Hopefully we get some good waves tomorrow.” And how about Kolohe Andino! He smoked his round four heat over Mick Fanning and Matt Wilkinson, to advance directly to the quarters. “Mick is one of my favorite surfers and he’s the reigning world champ so of course I’m stoked to beat him,” said Brother. “Anytime you draw one of those guys, you have to lift your game. I feel like I’m getting more confident in my surfing this season and growing into a more comfortable competitor. Looking forward to a great finish for the event.” Miguel Pupo was a surprise standout of the afternoon, clocking two heat wins (one of which was over Kelly Slater) and bouncing himself into the Quarterfinals. “Very difficult to get waves out there this afternoon,” said Miggy. “I found myself on a couple, but I just as easily could have ended up with none. Kelly didn’t really get anything out there so you know it’s difficult. I had a good start to the year then had some bad events. Happy to be in the Quarters and hope to keep progressing.” And Jordy Smith… collectively this man clocked more than anyone else today, posting 17.03 points against Jules Wilson in round three before taking a round four win over Taj Burrow and Jadson Andre. “Conditions remained clean but it was hard work out there,” said Jordy, sharing a commonly-expressed sentiment. “I’m feeling confident in my surfing and comfortable in competition recently. I have some great boards with me and I’m looking to keep the momentum from Trestles going here in Europe.” When competition resumes, Mick Fanning will take on John John Florence in what could be some (predicted) solid swell.
