Like most larger-than-life personalities, the truth—of their character, their experience, their life—lives on in the first-hand memories of those closest— their confidantes, partners, competition, their kin.

For those closest to Andy Irons, the burden of truth has surely rested heavy on their shoulders in the wake of his death, as rumor, gossip, and third-and fourth-hand misinformation has clouded perceptions of their friends struggles, as well as his triumphs.

To capture the true essence of Andy’s character—as well as the painful reality of Andy’s bi-polar disorder, depression, and his decade-long struggle with drug addiction, specifically opioids—the film’s directors Steve and Todd Jones were tasked with conducting hundreds of hours of interviews with Lyndie and Bruce Irons, Kelly Slater, Mick fanning, Cory Lopez, and a host of others who were lucky enough to call Andy their best friend, arch rival, brother, lover, etc.

While we can hope there will be an extended version or collectors edition complete with longer interviews, in the run-up to next week’s World Premieres, Teton Gravity research has released a handful of raw, candid moments from those interviews, which you can watch below.
