Pig-Dogging 101 With Mick Fanning And Conner Coffin
Lip tickle, engage.
There’s something eternally enticing about Cloudbreak. Going there once, while effective in ticking another spot off the Bucket List, does nothing to satisfy your desire for the wave itself. Especially because most first-timers have a really hard time figuring the wave out.
Basically, the good ones look like closeouts, but there also are closeouts, so how are you supposed to differentiate? Also, the barrel typically starts small and high, then grows through the middle of the wave, but if you don’t squeeze yourself into that first sections, chances are you won’t make it into the second — Cloudbreak is too fast for that. Worst of all, once it hits a certain size, a looming set offers two options: 1. Paddle for the fucking horizon. Or 2. Sit there and wait for what might be a 12-footer on the head, or perhaps the wave of your life.
Or a closeout.
My point is that Cloudbreak, despite how quixotic she may look on screen, is anything but an easy wave to surf.
Allow Mick and Conner to give you a crash course.
