One Man’s Skunking Is Another Man’s Treasure
Three minutes of Micky Clarke making the most of mediocre meteorology.
Of all the ways Dane Reynolds could rub off on you, it seems that his inability to score good waves might be the most prevalent amongst the Chapter11 crew.
“Every trip that I’ve gone on for this Defect film I’ve just been getting skunked,” said Dane, in a recent episode of StabMic. “I’ve been having bad luck, and just getting injured.”
“I hate going somewhere where it’s like a swell event and people are going there for it. It’s stressful. I want to go somewhere where you want to be there on an in between swell when the tide’s right and nobody knows or whatever. I try to work that out in my brain but then I just fail,” laughed Dane.
Micky Clarke follows Dane’s lead in the latest Sh11 Daily Export “Indo Skunk.”
When he first founded Ch11 TV, Dane welcomed Micky into the transition along with Eithan Osborne, Matt McCabe, Jake Kelley, and more. After parting ways with his longtime sponsor Quiksilver, Micky was reinvigorated and began dropping footage in countless episodes.
Following surf trips, film projects, and screenprinting shirts as an employee for one of his surfing heroes, Micky ultimately signed a deal with Vans in 2021 (Thanks Dane).
Five years later and he’s still doing the damn thing. Despite his relationship with Vans coming to an end earlier this year, nothing’s changed. His surfing is better than ever, and this edit is proof of that.

But don’t be deceived by the inherent cynicism that comes with being a surfer attempting to score. Despite being considered a skunk fest by Indo standards, these waves are extremely inviting to any average joe. Friendly barreling beach break? Yes please. Bintangs flowing daily? Sign me up. Air sections that even your great uncle Bert could hit? Absolutely.
Not to mention Mig was joined by the holy trinity of surf trip specialists: Holly Wawn, Eithan Osborne, and Chippa Wilson. That’s a hard crew to have a bad time with…
As a wise man once said: “The quality of waves can be determined by the quantity of Bintangs you drink.” amen to that.
Let this be your inspo to book that surf trip you’ve always wanted to. enjoy.
