Rumour confirmed: MillerCoors acquires St Archer Brewing Co.

Words by Morgan Williamson  What do you do when the brewing co you started with your friends lifts off? You sell that shit to MillerCoors, continue to run your company and bask in the payout! Yesterday our boys over at St Archer got acquired by the same social lubricant tycoon that brings us Guinness, Dos Equis, Coors, Miller and more. Not a bad move on MillerCoors’ part, their current menu of mostly piss-water could use a craft beer in the mix. St Archer was founded in 2013 by Josh Landon who then partnered with Paul Rodriguez and Mikey Taylor. Through the production of quality product and great social media marketing their brewing company gained notoriety fast. Josh wouldn’t tell us what they were acquired for, but word through the wireless is upwards of $70 mill. “We’re really excited about this,” Josh Landon told Stab. “We sold a majority stake in the business to Tenth and Blake (the craft and import division of MillerCoors). We’re going to be building our facilities and will continue to try and sell as much beer as we can here in California first. When the time’s right we’re going to start moving towards the rest of the country.” Not much will change with the production of St. Archer, just additional funding. “What we are most excited about it is partnering with someone who has the extra keys to maximize our potential in California,” said Josh. “And has the right tools to take a brand nationally and do it the right way. They’re letting us do our thing. The beer’s not going to change. Our original staff is staying on board. All the boys I started the company with are too. We still do equity in the business, nothing really changes on that front. And our beer will continue to be brewed out of San Diego.” “We always wanted to get great beer into more people’s hands,” Josh told us. St Archer racked up a couple gold medals back in 2014 at San Diego International Beer Festival and a gold at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival. Their combination of yeast, hops and barley’s been tasted, indulged and enjoyed. San Diego’s a hub for craft beer and St Archer’s gone beyond their original niche as the boardriders’ brew. “The vibe of the company’s never going to change,” Josh assured us. “Everybody from Mikey Taylor and Paul Rodriguez; who I started the company with to Taylor Knox, Jack Freestone and Eric Koston are still owning the brand. We’re presenting the brand the same way we always have, everyone’s as stoked today as they were when we first started.” Here are some of the ladies and gents who’s bank accounts just got fluffier: Paul Rodriguez, Mikey Taylor, Josh Kerr, Taylor Knox, Dusty Payne, Eric Koston, Jack Freestone, Todd Richards, Laura Enever and Pat Moore.
