Name A Sand Bottom Setup More Envy-Inducing Than This
Willis Droomer + friends visit a lonely dot of land somewhere in the Southern Ocean.
At the end of last year, after slamming the suitcase shut, tossing the pencil case into the corner, and finally wiping his hands clean of high school, we spoke to Willis Droomer — 18-year-old Jan Juc local, former ISA Worlds U/16 champ, and brewing CT prodigy — about the road ahead.
To him, the next stage was simple: travel with his mates, stack clips, and taste freedom before strapping on the straitjacket and getting to work — qualifying for the CT.
This video might be the first instalment of that promise — a trip with his close comrades to a lonely dot of land somewhere in the Southern Ocean.
Does this fine-looking sand formation, courtesy of God’s drunken dice roll, stir something in you? In our quasi-regular Best Surfing I’ve Ever Seen series, Erik Knutson once called the siege of John John Florence and Dave Rastovich at this very spot his favourite performance of all time. Not because it left bodies in the sand, but because it was the kind of relatable surfing that made you feel something — maybe a flicker of joy, maybe the kind of envy that sits in your stomach like bad seafood.
Watch above, and let it ruin your day.
