Mick Fanning Discusses His First Surf At J-Bay Since The Shark Attack

Yesterday we reported Mick’s return to J-Bay… It was something we anticipated ever since his declaration of the “personal year”, but when the official announcement graced our inbox we felt it right to share. The 3X World Champ was always planning on surfing the wave were he had the shock of his life. “Even if I didn’t do the event I was always gonna come back and surfing,” says Mick. Here Mick gives first hand insight on the return to J-Bay – where he’s arrived just over a week before the event – and his first wave at the scene of the notorious incident in 2015. “There was a little bit of anxiety,” he says. “And a few different emotions, but once I got the wetsuit on and got the board ready, it was pretty fun.” Could that lighting be any more sullen?
