Mick’s choice for this year’s Stab In The Dark winning board wasn’t based on top speed or length of ride, nor should it have been. 

There’s no stats associated with how a board ‘feels’ underfoot, and that’s fine with us.

In saying that, this year Mick Fanning wore his Rip Curl #searchGPS Surf Watch 2 and on reflection, it’s fascinating to discover just how fast the White Lightning strikes on each of these tricked-up surfboards. 

The wrist clock also measures paddle distance, number of waves surfed, and even the time (gasp) – numbers that wouldn’t bear much influence on the subjective study’s outcome, but interesting facts nonetheless.
