Watch: Lucas Godfrey Is The Most Barreled Man Of The Summer
Puerto Escondido has rarely been surfed like this.
If Instagram is any indication (and it is), no one got more barreled in the Northern Hemi summer than Lucas Godfrey.
Sure, some kid in Nicaragua might have logged more time behind the curtain, nabbing a thousand two-foot, two-second tubes. But if we’re measuring total square footage of tube excavated in a single season, we feel pretty confident asserting that Lucas took the cake. The only real contenders would be Puerto Escondido local Ramos Jafet, and other-Mexican-beachbreak star Al Cleland Junior.
Applying skills acquired at the real Pipeline, Lucas dominated the sand-bottomed, Mexican version in an atypical fashion. While Greg Long and the local crew were gliding into bombs on their 8’0 Caddilacs, Lucas rode small, knifey boards and sat way under the ledge, scooping under the heaviest waves Puerto could muster with total confidence and control.
The resulting film, made by Tomo McPherson, can be viewed above. It’s called “Where’s My Board” and features a silly little skit with an alien. We think you’ll enjoy.
