Kai Lenny’s Foil Board Clip Will Probably Melt Your Mind
Stop judging, this looks proper fun.
When Hawaiian, Kai Lenny, rolled onto the ranch riding a standup for real, he was more likely to be a surf cowboy’s punching bag for the arch conservatist surf community. To be a full time standup guy’s a bit taboo but before anyone had anything to say – in between SUP races and pumping 30 foot airs on his kite board – Mr Lenny was tackling 50 foot Jaws with a paddle
Then everywhere from Mavs to Puerto, he started swinging in prone and enthusiasm for the kid from Maui soared. It helps the gent also proper rips on a shortboard… We wouldn’t be surprised to see Kai getting slotted at Jaws on a canoe next winter. There’s nothing he can’t ride and to say the least, it’s impressive.
Whatever’s your take on this, there’s no way as a surfer you’re not intrigued by what he’s doing. Sure, it’s an adaptation of Laird’s foil board without the ski but the way Kai is paddling in on the foil, kicking out and pumping his way into the wave behind is mind blowing. He may have just made the hydrofoil cool…
