John John Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Leash
Watch the prosaically titled: ‘Fun boards on small waves’.
As one Youtube commenter aptly remarks: “This wave at my break in South Texas would be considered ‘It’s the swell of the century! Bro I can’t believe you missed out!’. John uses hyperbole sparingly, but that won’t stop people from lapping up his clips.
While many a Youtuber counts on the number of exclamation marks to sell you into a click, John’s name sells itself (re: Florence Marine X, JJFbyPyzel) and he can afford to run with a more restrained header. The payoff will be that when he does use an exclamation mark or two, we will all know it’s something special. There will be no boy who cried wolf.
John’s riding a 5’7” from ‘The Velocity Project’ collection by Pyzel in this clip. What is the ‘Velocity Project’ you ask?
“It’s a grouping of surfboards that I can make whenever I want as a sub-label within our label. As I come up with different things based on feedback from team riders, friends and different people, I’m going to pick out the things I like, and that other people like, and turn that into a model as we go along,” says Jon Pyzel.
“The whole purpose of the boards in the Velocity Project is speed. I want to make them fast, I want to make them fun, and I want them to be different from what our ‘normal’ range of boards is. It lets me be creative and fun without having to worry about someone winning a heat or doing the biggest air or whatever. Just let em’ go fast and have a good time.”
Watch John John, Ivan, and Nate go fast and have a good time sans leash, no less.
