Despite the stranglehold Brazilian surfers hold at home — and his wealth of excellent heat scores in the past — Gabriel Medina has never won a CT event within the borders of the homeland.  Though, he did samba his way through the 2022 Saquarema Challenger Series draw.

That said, the Punta Rocan semifinalist and current World #6 belongs on any shortlist, and has featured in nearly every single one of our 2024 Betonline.ag predictions videos.

Taj Burrow, who has won thrice in Brazil, includes Medina in his Oi Rio Pro predictions above, along with golden boy John and dark horse Crosby Colapinto.

John currently sits more than 10,000 points ahead of second place Jack Robinson and finished 3rd at his most recent Rio appearance. Current Rookie Of The Year leader Crosby sits in a comfortable 10th, and no doubt hopes to push onward towards a possible Lowers berth.

“They always seem to get a big day or two in there,” says Taj. “It just seems like big, unruly, wedgy lefts.”

On the women’s side, he chooses Molly Picklum and last year’s champ Caity Simmers… duh.

Mens Betonline.ag picks:

Gabriel Medina: +450 to win event
Crosby Colapinto: +2500 to win event
John Florence: +500 to win event

Womens Betonline.ag picks

A-Team
Caity Simmers: +350 to win event
Molly Picklum: +550 to win event
