For Rio early exits, the promising forecast for South Africa prior and during the Ballito pro was a gorgeous silver lining to surfer’s cloudy Brazilian results.

Before Jack Freestone stormed Ballito to a runner-up finish, Stoney and his rookie Brother From Another Mother, Soli Bailey, wasted no time hopping flights across the Atlantic and sinking their teeth into some biltong and some long J-Bay walls, dodging bailed boards and mussel-covered crags along the way.

Filmed by Scotty Hammonds—aka HamPositive/HamNegative, former Surfing ace photog-turned workhorse filmer—over a few days while the boys posted up at African Perfection, you can count on both of these boys coming out blade sharp today.
