My least favorite crowd is the one that starts kicking their legs 30 seconds before the wave actually breaks. Desperate red eyes. Drool protruding from a slack jawline. The lot that wakes up and choses violence….or to surf Lower Trestles before a the WSL Finals.

Even the greatest proponents of surf optimism have confessed to mental or emotional exhaustion after scraping for slopey A-frames at Lowers to prepare for a career event.

“It’s a weird place to practice for a comp because people are in your way on every wave. That time was so intense for me — it felt like the end of the world when I would have a bad session. Looking back, I feel like a drama queen because it’s such a quality problem to have,” Caity Simmers said when we asked her about the tilting of her latest Toasted production.

(On left) Red hat upset he didn’t get invited to the oside BBQ.

“Drama Queen” is a series of clips Caity collected before (and during) her 2023 Final Five debut at Lower Trestles. Enjoy six minutes whimsical lip lasers and A+ navigation courtesy of Miss Simmers.

PSA: Remove your headphones before the credits section or you may experience loss of hearing.
