“If You’re Gonna Ride Two Fins At J-Bay, You Better Have A Sturdy Rail Game”
Shane Sykes walks the line.
Mikey C. sent me this clip of Shane Sykes and said it was up my alley.
Boy was he right. The Channel Islands Fishbeard and pumping J-Bay go together like peanut butter and ladies. LIKE COCAINE AND WAFFLES BABY! (corny Stab trivia segment: name the movie). The board is essentially the front half of a Neckbeard 2 with a tweaked tail and a pair of keel-fins. Sykes going Mach-5 on this hybrid fish is a soothing sight to see.
My idea of entertaining surfing revolves around speed. Generating as much of it as possible, and maintaining complete control while doing so. Twin fins and fishes pose a challenge to surfers because it’s harder to slow down. Halting tail slides in steeper parts of the wave usually aren’t manageable, which means you better have a sturdy rail game. Sykes meets this criteria, and flaunts it as he flies down near-perfect walls at J-Bay.
