If You Only Had One Wave For All Of Lockdown, Why Not This One?

Lee Wilson and Jared Mell’s forced forehand delights.

If you were stuck in a months-long quarantine and could handcraft the perfect wave with which to satiate your surfing desires, what would you describe?

Unfortunately for Lee Wilson and Jared Mell, this scenario has been all too real over the past three months. With beaches in Indonesia closed, they spent weeks living on the prayer that they would be able to find even one measly corner to tear. After scouting out multiple beaches, they finally were able to finagle a favorable situation with the guards and gain access to a truly ideal setup. It may not be picture perfect lines as far as the eye can see, but the throaty right-hand tubes of which this entire edit is filmed are as good a cherry popper as any.

Having just graduated school and having to put all hopes of a celebratory Indonesian surf fest on hold, I know I’m not the only one feeing shades of envy while watching Jared and Lee meander through the tropics in their ‘Mystery Machine’. While the world rages on, the idea of getting into a rhythm of surfing one barreling right with one friend for days and weeks on end is quite enticing. Click in above for ‘Mystery Machine’ and make sure to stay till the end to see what Lee Wilson described as the “wave of his life”.
