Fin-First In The Tube? Why Not!

The Palm Springs pool is just getting better and better…

Well, well, well…

It was only a matter of time before Mason Ho visited the Palm Springs Surf Club, home of Tom Lochtefeld’s newest pneumatic wave design.

Running the show are Cheyne Magnusson and Kalani Robb, who by all (Instagram) accounts, have been way too much fun in their adult playground.

It’s also quite impressive how much the wave itself has seemingly approved. That’s one huge benefit of a pneumatic wave system, is you can truly make changes on the fly. And the waves that Cheyne and co. are producing now are significantly better than those that first leaked back in March.

This is all before their planned renovation, which will more than double the size of the pool and allow for bigger, longer waves. We can’t imagine the kind of quality they’ll be producing when that comes to fruition.

Based on the video above, the premium waves currently in Palm Springs include:

– the slab (as surfed fin-first by Mason)

– the running tube (if you want to learn how to barrel, this is the wave)

– the air section (still a little soft on the right, but the left is legit)

Naturally, Mason put on a performance at the pool that surpasses all comers. Highlights included the bomb-drop to air rev, the fin-first tubes, and the chop-hop into the pit.

Coco was also a pleasure to watch. Her cheeky grin after sticking that little reverse was adorable.

And can we talk about Josh Sleigh almost landing a kickflip?!
