Teahupo’o Local Says This Is The Heaviest Wave He’s Paddled
That’s not to discount the other 12 bombs Eimeo Czermak caught this swell.
Last week saw one of Teahupo’o’s best run of swells in years. While there were a few visitors on hand, as it should be, the locals got the best waves.
The deepest make of the week came from Matahi Drollet. The largest wave ridden was by Raimana van Bastolear. And you probably saw the tow wave that 16-year-old Gilbert Teave attempted to paddle.
But if we could place ourselves in any wave last week, paddle or tow, it would have been that by Eimeo Czermak — an easy(ish) entry, triple-thick west bowl that somehow pushed Eimeo through its turbulent foamball.
“I waited like 30 minutes for that wave,” the Tahitian said. “I usually don’t wait — I just take a bunch of waves. But I knew I needed to wait for a really big one.”
