Critical Moments From Nazaré’s Day of Days

Only if you lived under a rock or in some shithole nation could you have missed last week’s Nazaré spectacle. The waves were huge — nay, gargantuan — and had Jaws and Maverick’s not also been pumping at roughly the same time, most of the international big wave crew would have been there in Portugal to greet it. But as fate would establish, it was mostly big-balled no-names who stole the show at Europe’s prized wedge.  

After watching this video we remain unconvinced that Nazaré, with its colossal but quickly diminishing peaks, is anything more than an XXL novelty wave, but that doesn’t take anything away from the facts that: 1. It’s still terrifyingly lethal, and 2. It’s a damn-near perfect surfing amphitheater.
