‘COWABUNGA’ Is A Terrible Name For A Great Edit
We should still be talking about Brendon Gibbens.
It’s tough to give things names these days.
Mainly because we’re naming and titling things with far more frequency than necessity or taste would dictate.
Brendon Gibbens has always occupied an underdog position, but sill managed to be a lot of people’s secret favourite, particularly among the tall, lanky surfer set. Beeg’s ascendancy came courtesy of Kai Neville and Joe G and their respective generation-defining films.
With the fading of the Modern Collective generation, which feels like heresy to even suggest, given they’re all still very much surfing and ripping with their usual brilliance, sightings of the South African have become unfortunately rare.
Titling his vlog entry COWABUNGA in all caps is both generic and hilarious, but also a neat sidestep around convention and necessity, cutting straight to what his fans, followers, and groupies actually want: really good surfing.
Peep Beeg at home with his local crew (cameos by Eli Beukes, Mikey Feb, Dylan Graves, etc.), riding a variety of boards in excellent conditions. Seriously, how good does (South) Africa get?
