“If It Wasn’t For Me, You Wouldn’t Be Where You’re At Today”
Coming June 9th: ‘DNA’, a film about brothers in surfing.
January 2022, North Shore of Oahu
Half of the Pacific was stored in our sinus. At the yellow picnic tables at Sunrise Shack, we began to unpack a surf film quandary as old as time. A + action, from Crosby and Griffin Colapinto, but no real story direction.
We trudged in the trenches of the creative process, asking ourselves: What makes those two so special? Their surfing, of course. But so many surf well. Their ability in Hawaii? True again, but not unique. They’re brothers? Sibling rivalry? Sure, but how’s that different than the Monizes, Gudauskas’, Irons, Lopezes, Fletchers, Hobgoods, Geiselmans, Chiancas. Jeeze, there are a lot. What’s with that?
Brotherhood— a word that held authority in our crusty notebook pages. We unpacked our own experiences, patterns emerged about the realities of successful surf siblings. Or just, siblings in general.
Our monkey bowls came, we ate them, and left. Five months of editing followed. Finally, we have a story that’s worthy of the Colapintos’ A+ surfing.
DNA will be live on Stab Premium on June 9. For those in Southern California, the IRL world premiere will be going down on June 8 at Stance HQ in San Clemente. All ages.

Till then, eat up this appetizer.
