Can We DiscussThe Absurdity Of Jack Robinson’s Final Day At Sunset?
“The best performance I’ve ever seen out there.” – Pancho Sullivan
Jack Robinson qualified for the 2020 Tour in the most dramatic of fashions.
That’s not even hyperbole. The guy needed a second at the final event of the year to make the 20204 Championship Tour, and he ended up winning the whole event (and every heat on the way) with a pair of nines in the final. Pancho Sullivan called it the most impressive performance he’d ever seen at Sunset, which is a bit like Mike Tyson saying someone had the best tasting ear. (It’s a big fucking compliment.)
Not only that, but in the middle of the final, Jack had an altercation with Zeke Lau that ended with two broken boards and the Hawaiian petitioning for a re-surf (you can read about that incident at length here). It don’t get more drama than that!
But the best, if much less publicized, part of the event was Cam Richards’ interactions with his adorably emotional father. It will truly hydrate your ducts.
These stories are covered thoroughly in the second and final installment of Red Bull’s “Inflection Point” series. Considering the complete dearth of current surf events, we think it’s worth your click.
