Caity Simmers Tries Teahupo’o

Take a surf-trip to a marquee wave, add an ambiguously branded handy cam and a vague familiarity with iMovie, and at the end you might have a shakily-filmed memento of a trip well spent.

The only difference between my home videos and Caity Simmers’ end product, is that the surfing in hers is actually worth watching. Oh, and she’s training for the 2023 CT and probably the Olympics, while I’m just hoping my friends will comment on my Instagram posts.

She’s also 16.

Small differences really, in the scheme of things.

The above video features Caity backdooring velvety wedges at the tour’s next stop, looking as confident and precise as ever. From where we’re standing, the freckled gal from O-side represents imminent doom for the women on tour.

A generational landmark. A changing of the guard, if you will.

Caity doesn’t seem to be feeling much pressure though. She’s casually dominating the Challenger Series field, and still finding time to drop hammer free-surf clips. Tahiti as a warm-up for HB? No brainer.
