Bert Kreischer Graces Pinch My Salt Podcast
Hollywood-adjacent comic wades into surf speak.
In 1997, Rolling Stone bestowed the title of “top partyer at the Number One Party School in the country” upon Bert Kreischer, then a Florida State University student. Fast forward to today, and he’s a comedian, podcaster, actor, and, apparently, a sporadic admirer of surfing’s lore.
“I love Occy,” says Bert on his recent appearance on Sterling Spencer’s Pinch My Salt Podcast. “There’s folklore about him. It was rumored that he was addicted to heroin, and that made him so much cooler to me. I love the broken figures.”
Ahem.
Bert’s a polarising figure, no doubt, and his brand of comedy is definitely not for everyone. But it’s cool to see how much he seems to know about our little world, and how often his life has found itself tangled up with surfing. And, as always, Sterling’s interview style has a way of making his guests feel comfortable and bringing the best out of them.
“Of all the things you can spend your day trying to do, surfing is the most rewarding. When you feel the earth moving you, it’s surreal, and impossible to explain to someone who hasn’t done it,” says Bert.
And also:
“Laird’s a bad motherfucker. He FaceTimed me once. Laird is the only reason I’d ever quit drinking.”
The self-identified ‘plus-sized core lords’ also talk Jamie O’Brien, Mormons, Andy Irons, and how Bert sees surf culture. It’s a mixed bag. Open it and see whether you enjoy the taste.
