The Lighter Side Of Cloudbreak Is Still Heavy
Albee Layer and friends in “Warm and Lovable”.
If it wasn’t for Cloudbreak this would almost be cute. Four friends since grade school embark on a journey to the South Pacific to chase swell and drink beer. It’s something Rob Reiner would make a film out of. Then they cut it to a song by a band called Forest Swords Panic & The Bear’s Den that makes your heart feel soft and your insides feel funny. They play it for a rough seven minutes and wait ’till the middle of the clip to re-introduce Albee Layer, Dege O’Connell, Billy Kemper and Kai Barger with superimposed text over interlacing diamonds. And then, they smile, cheers and trade barrels in Fiji and the viewer is forced to think about their best friends and just how good life could be. Actually, it is pretty cute.
